I could barely afford to-go coffee, but I'd go to readings almost every night. I loved being surrounded by old books and my literary heroes in The Strand's Rare Book Room. I was looking forward to launching my own book, #WhatWeInherit, with Kate Bolick in that same room at Strand Book Store, a magical place that has meant so much to me as a reader and as a New Yorker. When The Strand had to close its doors and the reading was cancelled due to COVID-19, I was sad for New York and the bookstore's brilliant staff.
